The Cardano ecosystem faced a setback as SecondFi announced the shutdown of its wallet services following a $2.6 million ADA theft. A cryptographic vulnerability affected 374 wallets, with Groom Lake linking the breach to possible involvement by the Lazarus Group. SecondFi is testing a zero-knowledge recovery tool and planning a wallet export feature, but no compensation plan has been confirmed. Ethereum ecosystem news continues to underscore ongoing security challenges across blockchain platforms.

Odaily Planet Daily reports: The Cardano ecosystem wallet SecondFi stated that approximately 16.1 million ADA, valued at around $2.6 million, were stolen due to a cryptographic flaw in the wallet software, and the platform will gradually shut down its SecondFi and Yoroi wallet services. The incident affected 374 wallets. SecondFi said an independent investigation by the blockchain intelligence firm Groom Lake determined the attacker was a sophisticated external actor and identified indicators potentially linked to the North Korean Lazarus Group, though attribution has not been confirmed. SecondFi is developing a zero-knowledge proof-based recovery tool to help affected users reclaim their assets while minimizing the information that needs to be shared. The tool is still under testing and will undergo third-party auditing before its planned release in August. SecondFi is also preparing a wallet export feature to allow users to migrate their assets to other services. The platform has not announced any direct compensation plan, nor has it disclosed whether it will use its own funds to reimburse users.
