Samsung Electronics at the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event in London unveiled a new generation of foldable smartphones — Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8. The main focus of the presentation was the integration of agentic artificial intelligence (agentic AI), new multitasking scenarios, and a deeper fusion of AI with everyday device functions.

“Combining agentic AI that understands users with hardware tailored to different lifestyles, the lineup offers three distinct foldable experiences,” Samsung said.

Fold8 Ultra Received Agentic AI and New Productivity Tools

The headline device was the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra — the first foldable smartphone in the lineup to carry the Ultra moniker.

The device features:

  • An 8-inch main display
  • A thickness of just 4.1 mm when unfolded
  • A weight of 215 g, making it the thinnest Fold in the series’ history
  • The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor
  • A 5,000 mAh battery

The company also upgraded the hinge, magnet system, and its proprietary Flex Titanium technology, which reduces the screen crease and improves durability.

Samsung also put special emphasis on new AI features. In particular, Gemini Notebook can automatically analyze PDF documents or meeting audio recordings, create short summaries, and then turn them into presentations, videos, podcasts, or quizzes.

Another new feature is Now Nudge, which uses agentic AI to anticipate the user’s needs. For example, if a dinner plan is being discussed in a message, the system can automatically suggest adding the event to the calendar and immediately open Multi Window mode.

New Fold8 and Flip8 Received a Refreshed Design and More AI Without Opening the Smartphone

Galaxy Z Fold8 received a completely new form factor with a 4:3 display that automatically adapts to different usage scenarios — from watching videos to reading books.

Among the new features:

  • More than 26 hours of video playback on a single charge
  • A weight of just 201 g, making it the lightest model in the series’ history
  • The My FanCam feature, which uses Galaxy AI to automatically track a selected person in a video and reframe the shot

The company also demonstrated an example of agentic AI in action: after sending Gemini a photo of the Eiffel Tower, the user can ask it to find a nearby hotel, and the system will run the search in the background without interrupting other apps.

Meanwhile, Galaxy Z Flip8 became thinner — just 6.1 mm when unfolded — and received an updated external FlexWindow display, which now allows users to do the following without opening the smartphone:

  • View photos
  • Reply to messages
  • Receive personalized cards with weather, exchange rates, schedules, and stock quotes via Now Brief

For content creators, Samsung also added:

  • Camcorder Grip mode for stable one-handed shooting
  • Dual Recording feature, which records both the creator and the other person at the same time, designed for vlogs and social media content

The Presentation Took Place Against the Backdrop of the Global AI Race

The new smartphones are part of Samsung’s broader strategy to develop its artificial intelligence ecosystem.

Earlier, the company reported a record investment program worth more than $73 billion in the production and development of semiconductors for AI, aiming to strengthen its position in the memory market for Nvidia accelerators. Samsung also warned that due to a shortage of memory chips driven by the data center and AI boom, prices for smartphones, laptops, and other electronics could rise.

In addition, Samsung subsidiaries recently announced a $445 million investment in Dunamu, the operator of South Korea’s largest crypto exchange, Upbit. The parties plan to develop joint solutions in the areas of stablecoins, tokenized securities, and digital payments, underscoring the corporation’s growing focus not only on AI, but also on digital assets.
