ChainCatcher report, according to South Korea’s Munhwa Daily, Samsung Electronics’ wafer fab in Taylor, Texas, is expected to enter trial operation by the end of this month, as orders for 2nm chips from Tesla, Broadcom, Arm, and others continue to pour in, pushing pre-production capacity close to full utilization. Since 2022, the facility has received cumulative investments of $37 billion, with plans to begin trial operations next month and commence mass production next year. Initial monthly capacity is expected to reach approximately 50,000 wafers, nearing TSMC’s output of around 80,000 wafers. The report states that the Taylor facility will produce Tesla’s next-generation AI chip AI5, Broadcom’s new-generation communication chips, and Arm’s AI chips for smart devices. Samsung’s 2nm yield has risen from around 60% at the beginning of this year to approximately 80% recently. The company dispatched process, equipment, and yield specialists to the facility in June and began equipment installation in July. Samsung projected at its recent earnings call that its 2nm order volume this year will more than double compared to last year, and confirmed that NVIDIA’s Grok3 inference chip began mass production last month. Samsung has also recently increased its 4nm foundry pricing by up to 15%. The second phase of the Taylor facility is scheduled to break ground by the end of this year and begin mass production in 2030; Samsung has already required key partners to complete safety certifications for related production equipment ahead of schedule, with some partners considering dispatching dozens of personnel to the local site.
