ChainCatcher report, according to the Science and Technology Daily, South Korean memory chip manufacturers SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics will announce their third-quarter 2026 financial results this week, with SK Hynix scheduled for Wednesday and Samsung Electronics for Thursday. The report states that rising demand for AI chips and higher memory chip prices are expected to drive strong financial performance, with combined operating profit for both companies projected at 184.4 trillion KRW (approximately $139.1 billion). Samsung Electronics’ preliminary results released on October 8 showed a 127% year-over-year revenue increase to 195 trillion KRW, with operating profit reaching 107.4 trillion KRW (approximately $80.17 billion), up nearly eightfold from 1.217 trillion KRW in the same period last year. According to analyst estimates from FnGuide, SK Hynix is expected to report third-quarter revenue of 98.2 trillion KRW and operating profit of 77 trillion KRW. In 2025, Samsung and SK Hynix’s operating profits were forecast at 43.6 trillion KRW and 47.2 trillion KRW respectively, totaling 90.8 trillion KRW. If these projections materialize, Samsung will become the first South Korean company to post quarterly operating profit exceeding 100 trillion KRW. As of the close on October 23, Samsung and SK Hynix shares had declined 36% and 52% respectively since the end of June. The report notes that investors view the strong earnings as largely anticipated, with focus now on HBM4 supply, long-term agreements, and shareholder returns. TrendForce forecasts that the average selling price of HBM will rise 121% next year compared to this year, and both Samsung and SK Hynix have already sold out their entire 2027 production capacity. In their second-quarter earnings reports, Samsung disclosed long-term agreements with five data center customers, while SK Hynix finalized multi-year contracts with over ten clients. Samsung has announced a shareholder return plan of 90–110 trillion KRW for this year and will determine a third-quarter cash dividend of approximately 30 trillion KRW by month-end. SK Hynix announced an 8-trillion-KRW share buyback program in August and has halted its evaluation of an IPO for Solidigm. Kim Dong-won, head of KB Securities, said that despite the significant stock price corrections, both companies’ profit expectations have been raised, and the key catalysts for stock revaluation are expected to be the sustainability of earnings growth and the potential for further increased shareholder returns.
