On September 5, Router Protocol announced a protocol update confirming it will fully shut down by September 30. The project will permanently burn 303,333,198 ROUTE tokens from its treasury and delist the token from major exchanges. Users are urged to withdraw their holdings before the deadline. The team cited liquidity challenges, high operational costs, and industry-wide shifts toward AI as reasons for the shutdown.

Huo Xing Finance reports that on September 5, the cross-chain protocol Router Protocol announced it would officially cease operations after more than four years of development, with full shutdown planned by September 30, 2026. Router Protocol stated that over the past two years, Web3 liquidity has remained tight, with significant capital shifting toward AI, while cross-chain infrastructure has faced declining fee revenues, high operational costs, and concentrated demand on a few major chains. The team explored various avenues to sustain the project, including commercialization, technology licensing, and acquisitions, but none yielded a viable long-term solution for ongoing operations. According to the announcement, Router will permanently destroy the 303,333,198 ROUTE tokens currently held in the treasury during the shutdown process and will coordinate with centralized exchanges to delist ROUTE trading pairs and related listings. Users holding ROUTE on centralized exchanges must withdraw their assets before the deadline in accordance with each platform’s delisting and withdrawal procedures. Additionally, Router Protocol will not launch any new initiatives related to ROUTE and plans to open-source certain technical components to preserve the engineering achievements accumulated over the past four years. The team emphasized that this shutdown is not the outcome they desired, but it is the most honest and responsible decision for the community under current circumstances.
