Meme coin news emerged on Robinhood Chain as trading volume surged for meme coins paired with tokenized U.S. stocks. On-chain data shows $217 million in volume on September 2 from pairs such as Artificial Inu (NVIDIA) and Saylormoon (MSTR), with no significant impact on real-world stock prices.
CoinDesk reports:

On Robinhood's Layer 2 network, Robinhood Chain, a new trading strategy has recently emerged: developers issue meme coins and pair them directly with tokenized U.S. stocks, rather than the more common stablecoin pairs. This activity has rapidly boosted trading volume on the new chain, but its impact on actual stock markets remains limited.

The HIMS token price briefly deviated.

Among these, a set of tokens tied to Hims & Hers Health once drew attention. The report noted that the associated wrapped stock tokens briefly rose to $132.64, while HIMS’s closing price on U.S. markets last Friday was only $28.84. As of Monday, the actual HIMS stock price remained around $29, with little noticeable fluctuation.

On-chain trading volume increased on September 2.

Robinhood Chain launched in July as a permissionless Layer 2 network that enables developers to deploy various applications. Now, more liquidity pools pairing meme coins with tokenized stocks have emerged on this chain, driving a rapid increase in trading volume.

According to reports, this type of meme coin-stock pairing generated a combined trading volume of approximately $217 million on September 2. The article states that this design partially leverages the "short squeeze" narrative, aiming to attract traders to engage in speculation around stocks with high short interest.

However, such on-chain transactions occur more frequently in markets for thinly traded tokenized assets and have not directly triggered massive short squeezes in actual stocks on exchanges, as seen in the 2021 GameStop event.

Multiple tokens are spreading around popular U.S. stocks.

  • Artificial Inu corresponds to tokenized Nvidia stock
  • Saylormoon corresponds to the Strategy stock ticker MSTR.
  • Clippy XP corresponds to tokenized Microsoft stock

In terms of scale, Artificial Inu is one of the most active projects currently. Reports indicate that the token has a market capitalization of approximately $203 million, a 24-hour trading volume of around $16.3 million, and primary AI/NVDA pool liquidity of about $5.2 million.

Saylormoon has a market cap of approximately $1.75 million, a daily trading volume of about $2 million, and core MSTR pool liquidity of around $450,000. Clippy XP has a market cap of approximately $1.69 million, a trading volume of about $641,000, and primary MSFT pool liquidity of around $395,000.

More like attracting attention to the new chain

The article shows that the primary role of these trading pairs is currently to attract attention and liquidity to the newly launched Robinhood Chain, rather than to alter the actual price discovery process for real stocks.

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev previously responded to this trend publicly, stating that the company’s chain is “also well-suited for memes,” even though its original goal was to bring real-world assets on-chain.

Currently, meme coin trading activity has surpassed tokenized stocks in certain contexts. For Robinhood Chain, this indicates early user engagement on the new chain; however, for the actual U.S. stock market, such on-chain price movements remain largely confined to the token level.
