Robinhood Chain generated $4.5 million in fees on September 3, while Ethereum news showed the network earned just $398 for data posting. Bitquery data reveals the Layer 2 has processed over 600 million transactions since April, paying Ethereum ecosystem news a total of $49,000. Transaction revenue stays with L2 operators, while Ethereum earns mainly from data availability and finality.
  • Robinhood Chain collected about $4.5M in fees on Sept. 3, while Ethereum received roughly $398 for data posting.
  • The Layer 2 has processed over 600M transactions since April but paid Ethereum only about $49,000 during that period.
  • The fee gap highlights how L2 operators retain transaction revenue while Ethereum primarily earns from data availability and finality.

Robinhood Chain collected about $4.5 million in fees on September 3, while Ethereum received only $398. Digital Asset cited Bitquery data showing the sharp gap between the chain’s transaction revenue and Ethereum’s data posting costs. The analysis said the figures reflect how Layer 2 activity can generate fees without matching revenue growth for Ethereum.

Robinhood Chain Keeps Most Transaction Fees

According to Digital Asset, Robinhood Chain has processed more than 600 million transactions since late April. However, the chain paid Ethereum only about $49,000 during that period. That equals roughly $370 per day for data posting and proof costs.

On September 3, Robinhood Chain collected approximately $4.5 million in transaction fees.
Meanwhile, its payment to Ethereum stood at about $400 that day.
The figures highlight how fees can remain within the Layer 2 system.

Robinhood moved existing customers and financial products onto its own chain. It also connected tokenized stocks with decentralized finance while retaining sequencer revenue. The chain uses Arbitrum and Ethereum technology, while ETH serves as its gas asset.

Ethereum Provides Data And Finality

The analysis said Robinhood chose Layer 2 to secure dedicated blockspace and control transaction processing. It can also set fee structures and develop compliance strategies around its operations. Meanwhile, transaction data moves through Ethereum blobs for data availability and finality.

However, Robinhood Chain operates differently from Ethereum’s mainnet. Only Offchain Labs and Alchemy can challenge incorrect states, according to the analysis.
A centralized sequencer and security committee also hold significant control.

Ethereum allows users to access Robinhood Chain data and reconstruct its transaction history. However, it does not directly prevent operator censorship or malicious upgrades.
This distinction also affects how value moves between the two networks.

L2 Growth Does Not Equal Ethereum Revenue

Transaction fees generated on Robinhood Chain remain with the companies operating its sequencer. Meanwhile, related infrastructure providers receive revenue from rollup technology. Ethereum directly receives fees mainly for publishing transaction data through blobs.

The analysis said this structure can limit Ethereum’s direct revenue from growing L2 activity.
Robinhood Chain also uses ETH for gas, creating another connection with Ethereum. However, that link could change if the operator selects another gas asset or data availability layer.

The analysis said Ethereum’s focus now includes stronger L1 processing and better user experience. It also highlighted connections between L2 assets and liquidity around Ethereum. Furthermore, it said withdrawal rights and final settlement should not depend entirely on individual operators.
