Rivian has a $5.8 billion joint technology venture with VW Group focused on electric architecture and software. Scaringe discussed expanding the venture to cover AI and autonomy. Scaringe also discussed licensing Rivian's technology to many different brands. Rivian is preparing to license electric architecture, software, AI models and autonomous driving technology, positioning Rivian as a technology supplier rather than only an electric truck and SUV maker.

Scaringe created a micromobility development program that has since become an independent startup called Also. Scaringe also founded industrial robotics startup Mind Robotics, which is now 31% owned by Rivian and counts Rivian as a prospective customer. Scaringe announced that Mind Robotics has hired former Ford, Apple and Tesla executive Doug Field as president. Mind Robotics is building industrial robots for use in Rivian factories and for sale to other companies. A successful robotaxi launch with Uber could create opportunities for more deals. Scaringe said personally owned autonomous vehicles beyond the R2 and R3 could enable different vehicle designs and experiences over the next 10 years.
