Ripple unlocked 1 billion XRP from its escrow account on Aug. 1 while returning 700 million XRP to escrow during the same transaction cycle. The move limited the effective increase in circulating supply to 300 million XRP, easing concerns over additional selling pressure at the beginning of August.

According to XRP Scan, Ripple first placed 200 million XRP and 500 million XRP back into escrow. The network then completed the scheduled monthly unlock through three separate transactions of 500 million, 300 million, and 200 million XRP.

Consequently, only 300 million XRP remained available for circulation despite the release of one billion tokens. The revised sequence immediately attracted attention because investors typically associate the monthly escrow unlock with increased market supply.

Ripple Changes Monthly Escrow Flow

Ripple has maintained its monthly escrow program for years by unlocking up to one billion XRP before returning unused tokens to escrow. This month, however, the company secured most of the tokens before the scheduled release finished.

Moreover, the adjustment reduced the amount of XRP entering the market without changing Ripple’s long-term escrow policy. Consequently, traders viewed the move as a measure that lowered immediate supply pressure during a historically challenging month.

August has consistently ranked among XRP’s weakest months based on long-term performance. Historical data shows the month carries a median return of -6.15%, while the average monthly return stands at just 0.54%.

Additionally, XRP finished August lower in each of the past three years. The token declined 26.6% in 2023, 9.17% in 2024, and 8.15% in 2025, reinforcing concerns about seasonal weakness.

XRP Defends Key Support Level

Meanwhile, XRP remained stable during the escrow activity. The token established support around $1.0480 before recovering toward $1.0818, keeping its monthly performance in positive territory following July’s gains.

Besides, the $1.0480 to $1.0600 range has strengthened as an important support area after buyers defended that level throughout the escrow transactions. That resilience suggested market participants absorbed the reduced supply increase without triggering significant selling pressure.

Furthermore, the effective release of only 300 million XRP removed much of the anticipated supply overhang. Investors therefore shifted their attention toward XRP’s price stability instead of the headline size of the monthly unlock.

Conclusion

Ripple unlocked 1 billion XRP from escrow while returning 700 million XRP to escrow, leaving only 300 million XRP as the effective addition to circulating supply. The revised transaction sequence eased immediate August supply concerns, while XRP maintained support above a key technical level despite the month’s historically weak seasonal performance.
