Ripple unlocked 1 billion XRP in September via three escrow releases, bringing its remaining locked balance to 31.28 billion. The company follows a monthly release schedule, with some tokens reallocated to new escrow contracts or used for operations. Unused XRP does not immediately hit the market, and no major selling pressure was seen. Altcoins to watch may see ripple effects as the crypto market digests ongoing XRP movements.

In Brief:

  • Ripple unlocked 1 billion XRP through three escrow transactions, reducing its remaining locked holdings to approximately 31.28 billion XRP.
  • Unused XRP often returns to escrow, meaning the monthly release does not automatically enter cryptocurrency markets as circulating supply immediately.
  • XRP traded near $1.39, while $1.5 million in short liquidations exceeded roughly $793,000 removed from leveraged long positions.

Ripple has unlocked 1 billion XRP through its escrow schedule, reducing its remaining locked holdings to approximately 31.28 billion XRP. According to Whale Alert, three transactions released 500 million, 400 million, and 100 million XRP from Ripple-controlled escrow accounts.

These transfers followed Ripple’s system, which permits up to 1 billion XRP to be unlocked at each month’s beginning. Ripple created the arrangement in 2017 by placing 55 billion XRP into escrow to improve transparency around its substantial holdings.

However, unlocking tokens does not mean Ripple sold the full amount or placed everything into the circulating market. The company usually allocates some XRP for operations, institutional transactions, partnerships, and other activities supporting its payments business. Moreover, Ripple regularly returns unused tokens into new escrow contracts, extending their availability through scheduled releases in later months.

Ripple’s Locked XRP Supply Moves Lower

An on-chain tracker calculated that approximately 32.28 billion XRP remained inside active XRPL escrow objects through August 31. Consequently, the September release lowered that existing balance to roughly 31.28 billion XRP before Ripple completed potential re-escrow transactions.

That amount represents approximately 31.28% of XRP’s fixed maximum supply, which remains limited to 100 billion tokens. Significantly, Ripple’s monthly unlock creates potential availability, while later transactions determine how many tokens reach the broader cryptocurrency market.

Traders therefore monitor Ripple’s destination wallets because re-escrow transfers can substantially reduce the effective supply entering active circulation. Meanwhile, XRP traded near $1.39, gaining approximately 1.7% during the previous 24 hours as buyers strengthened their positions.

The cryptocurrency also gained roughly 30.8% over 30 days and 14.5% across the previous 90-day trading period. Additionally, derivatives platforms liquidated more than $2.3 million in XRP positions during the previous 24 hours.

Short liquidations reached approximately $1.5 million, exceeding the roughly $793,000 removed from leveraged long positions during that period. Ripple’s September transaction reduced its escrow holdings, although subsequent transfers will determine the amount entering circulation. Hence, the headline release represents available XRP rather than confirmed selling pressure across exchanges.
