Ethereum news: A state root error in Reth and op-reth has disrupted EVM chains, including OP Stack networks. Unpatched nodes may experience sync issues or invalid state proofs. Reth merged a fix on November 3, and updated versions are now available. On-chain reports indicate that LayerZero has temporarily paused cross-chain services as a precaution, causing delays but no losses. Some protocols have halted deposits or routing. Node operators are urged to upgrade immediately.

ChainCatcher report: According to security firm Blockaid, the Ethereum execution client Reth and its derivative client op-reth contain a state root calculation error affecting certain EVM blockchains, including several OP Stack chains. Unpatched nodes may experience sync stalls or return incorrect state proofs (eth_getProof). This is a client correctness defect, not a known attack, and no fund losses have been detected. Reth merged the fix on November 3; patched versions include reth v2.10.0, op-reth v2.8.1, and Base node-reth v1.5.3. As a precaution, the cross-chain interoperability protocol LayerZero has paused off-chain infrastructure for some affected chains, causing delays but no loss of cross-chain messages; some protocols have also paused deposits or cross-chain routing. Blockaid recommends that node operators and RPC providers upgrade as soon as possible.
