News of a Ravencoin vulnerability emerged as the network disclosed a consensus layer flaw exploited since August 7, 2026. Invalid blocks were accepted, prompting mining pools to initiate a network upgrade on an alternative chain. A three-day reorganization threatens transactions after block 4,487,775. RVN/USDT dropped 20.40% following the announcement, putting exchanges and users at risk of transaction reversals.
CoinDesk reports:

The Ravencoin network has disclosed that a consensus-layer vulnerability has been exploited, resulting in certain invalid blocks being accepted by nodes since August 7. As major mining pools shift to a new chain that excludes the compromised branch, the network may experience a deep reorganization of approximately three days, putting some transactions after August 7 at risk of reversal.

The first invalid block appeared on August 7.

The project announced on X that the first known invalid block has been confirmed at block height 4,487,776 on August 7, 2026, at 15:44:01 UTC. The issue is that vulnerable nodes accept blocks that should not have been confirmed.

Ravencoin uses a proof-of-work mechanism similar to Bitcoin. Under this rule, the chain with the most computational power is considered the valid main chain by the network. Therefore, the outcome of this event depends on which chain miners and mining pools ultimately direct their computational power toward.

Two major mining pools support alternative chains.

The notice states that 2Miners and RavenMiner currently control the majority of Ravencoin's hashing power and have announced they will mine a chain that excludes the exploited fork, starting from block height 4,487,776.

If more miners follow these two mining pools, the alternative chain could become the new main chain. At that point, the Ravencoin network would experience approximately three days of deep chain reorganization, and some transactions confirmed in the past few days may be erased.

  • The last block considered valid: 4,487,775
  • Potential reorganization starting block: 4,487,776
  • Potential rollback time span: approximately three days

The exchange and users face a risk of withdrawal cancellation.

The project team reminds users that transactions confirmed after block 4,487,775 should be considered at risk. Some affected transactions may return to the mempool and be re-included, but this is not guaranteed.

The project team specifically warns that exchanges should not assume that reversed deposits or withdrawals will automatically reappear or be reconfirmed. This means that all transfers, payments, deposits, and withdrawals since August 7 may become invalid due to the main chain switch.

Developers stated that they had requested mining pools to consider using more recent recovery points to minimize the impact on users, service providers, and exchanges, but this request was not accepted.

After the announcement was made, the coin price plummeted.

After the news spread, RVN quickly declined. The report cited market data showing that RVN/USDT fell as much as 20.40% on the day, breaking out of the range it had maintained since mid-June.

According to the data provided, RVN's current market capitalization is approximately $46 million, with tens of millions of dollars erased in the past few hours. Calculating from its approximate high of $0.0055 in late May, RVN has declined nearly 50% from that peak.
