On July 8, 2026, Polymarket announced a network upgrade enabling instant Bitcoin Lightning Network deposits via the Spark protocol. Previously, deposits required 3 to 6 block confirmations, taking 10 to 60 minutes. The new protocol update enables near-instant deposits, reduces fees, and lowers entry barriers. Spark verifies double spends, fees, and RBF during broadcast, supporting zero-confirmation deposits. It also processes on-chain, Lightning, and stablecoin payments without Polymarket operating its own nodes. This upgrade aims to enhance capital efficiency for Bitcoin users and strengthen Polymarket’s competitive position against Kalshi.

Huo Xing Finance reports that on July 8, the prediction market platform Polymarket announced support for instant, self-custodial deposits via the Bitcoin Lightning Network, powered by the Spark protocol. Compared to the previous on-chain deposit method, which required 3 to 6 block confirmations and took approximately 10 to 60 minutes, the new solution enables near-instant settlement while lowering deposit thresholds and transaction costs. According to the announcement, Spark performs checks for double-spending risks, fees, and Replace-by-Fee (RBF) at the time of transaction broadcast, enabling “zero-confirmation” deposits. It also supports on-chain, Lightning Network, and stablecoin payment channels without requiring the platform to operate its own Lightning Node. Polymarket stated that this move will further enhance the capital efficiency for Bitcoin users and strengthen its competitiveness against rival Kalshi.
