Pi Network’s testnet displayed smart contract activity on August 27, linked to the booking app BNPi. Functions such as server_auto_release and release_booking_escrow were triggered for escrow and fund management. The Protocol 27 network upgrade remains on schedule for September 15, 2026. The Pi Wallet testnet is also updating its decentralized exchange and AMM interface. PI rose 2% in 24 hours but remains below its 2025 peak. Token unlock forecasts for 2029 indicate a slower release pace, potentially reducing market pressure.
CoinDesk reports:

On August 27, visible smart contract activity appeared on the Pi Network testnet. Testnet wallets showed that the related calls were associated with BNPi, a reservation app built on the network, which some community members viewed as a new development ahead of the mainnet transition.

Two calls have appeared on the testnet.

The two currently available features are server_auto_release and release_booking_escrow, primarily designed for escrow management and automatic release of funds in booking scenarios.

According to this design, after the user completes the booking, funds will first be held in an escrow account. Once the guest checks in, the funds will be automatically released to the host; in case of a dispute, the funds will be handled according to predefined rules.

The mainnet launch is still targeted for September.

This custodial feature is related to Protocol 27, which Pi Network is currently advancing. This upgrade aims to enhance the network’s smart contract capabilities, and the current mainnet schedule still points to September 15, 2026.

According to information leaked on social media, the decentralized exchange and automated market maker interfaces in the Pi Wallet testnet are also being updated, indicating that related infrastructure development is progressing in parallel.

PI has risen 2% in the past 24 hours.

PI is currently trading at approximately $0.09178, up 2% over the past 24 hours, but has slightly declined over the past week. Compared to some altcoins that have recently surged 30% to 50%, PI’s overall performance has been relatively weak.

From a longer-term perspective, PI is still more than 96% below its all-time high of $2.99 set in February 2025; however, it has rebounded approximately 30% from its low of $0.07059 in July 2026.

Unlock schedule slows down in 2029

Additional data provides monthly token unlock forecasts extending through 2029, with a slower unlocking pace compared to earlier stages.

  • 3,405 PI are expected to unlock in July 2029.
  • 15,722 PI are expected to unlock in August.
  • From September to December, it was mostly between 2,488 and 3,694.

Some market participants believe that a slowdown in unlocks means reduced new selling pressure, which could support long-term price performance. However, this assessment is currently based primarily on market expectations.
