Pi Network plans to launch Protocol 27 on September 15, with only one week remaining until the upgrade. The team describes this as the final upgrade in the current development roadmap, focusing on enhancing smart contract authentication capabilities and expanding transaction authorization methods for accounts and applications.
Nodes must be upgraded before the deadline.
According to the disclosure, node operators must update their software to version 27.1 before the deadline, or they will no longer be able to connect to the mainnet. Regular users and miners do not need to take any additional action.
This means the direct impact of this upgrade primarily falls on the infrastructure layer. For nodes, completing the version switch on time is a necessary condition to maintain network connectivity.
Enhanced smart contract certification capabilities
One of the core changes in Protocol 27 is enhancing the authentication and authorization capabilities of smart contracts. After the upgrade, accounts and applications will be able to use more sophisticated transaction authorization methods, expanding the network’s smart contract functionality.
From a functional perspective, this update focuses on strengthening underlying capabilities rather than making frontend changes for end users. Its significance lies in providing a more complete execution environment for future application development.
DEX and AMM features are gaining attention
The project team also mentioned that this upgrade is expected to support new DEX and AMM liquidity features, aligning with the ecosystem's future development. However, the information disclosed at this stage primarily focuses on the technical upgrade plan, with specific product timelines yet to be detailed.
On the market side, PI is currently holding above $0.095, with traders watching to see if it breaks through the $0.10 level.
