Pi Network rolled out Pi Desktop 0.6.4, featuring a network upgrade to Protocol 28 on October 16, which improved transaction handling and smart contract flexibility. The update also enhances SoloHost remote access, allowing Pi Desktop to connect to locally hosted apps without router configuration changes. Security measures now include file and network access restrictions for SoloHost apps to prevent potential security breach risks.

Despite some of the price struggles of its underlying asset, Pi Network has rolled out another important upgrade for Pioneers, aimed at making the recently released SoloHost considerably easier to use while adding new safeguards for applications running through Pi Desktop.

The new release continues a string of updates that aim to transform Pi’s vast Node ecosystem into something much broader than blockchain infrastructure.

Pi Desktop’s New Version Goes Live

The Core Team announced the launch of Pi Desktop version 0.6.4 earlier this weekend, with the biggest change targeting remote access to SoloHost applications. Until now, Pioneers who wanted to access locally hosted apps on their phones may have had to change their home routers, including configuring network settings. The new version, though, removes that technical hurdle.

Pi Desktop can now establish the remote connection itself, allowing users to access supported applications running on their computers through the Pi Browser on their phones. This means they don’t have to open ports or manually modify their routers, as remote access remains optional.

The update also introduces protection for SoloHost. Before installation and whenever an app starts, the system can check whether that application is restricted to accessing only its own files and network resources.

According to the team, these checks are designed to reduce the risk of a SoloHost app accessing unrelated files on a user’s computer, another application’s data, or the Pi Node itself. Developers run these checks when they first publish an app. The previous desktop version 0.6.3 was released in early September.

The blog post also confirms that Pi Network has “successfully completed its upgrade to Protocol 28 on October 16,” which should improve the network’s handling of delayed transaction data and give devs more flexibility when maintaining and updating smart contracts.

PI’s Price Struggles

Alongside the rest of the market, Pi Network’s native token was rejected at its key resistance at $0.08 earlier this week. It has tumbled to $0.076 as of press time, posting a 2.7% decline over the past day. Moreover, it’s down by over 6% since its peak on Wednesday at almost $0.081. Unfortunately for the bulls, PI stands over 97% away from its all-time high of almost $3, marked in late February 2025.

In contrast, its latest nosedive has put it just 7% above its all-time low of $0.07072 (on CoinMarketCap), registered three months ago. PI’s market cap has plummeted well below $900 million.
