Bitcoin news broke as veteran trader Peter Brandt dismissed XRP, saying he would convert a large XRP position into Bitcoin. XRP recently dropped below $1, trading at $0.9992, down 72.6% from its July 2025 peak. Brandt has long criticized XRP’s market structure, though he briefly supported it during the 2024 rally. His latest comments align with his Bitcoin analysis, showing continued preference for Bitcoin as XRP struggles near the $1 level.

In Brief:

  • Peter Brandt dismissed holding XRP, explaining he would convert a substantial XRP position directly into Bitcoin because of his preference.
  • XRP slipped below the psychological $1 level, trading roughly 72.6% beneath its $3.65 all-time high recorded during July 2025.
  • Brandt previously identified bearish technical risks for XRP, although he briefly adopted a constructive outlook during its powerful 2024 rally.

Veteran trader Peter Brandt has dismissed XRP as a cryptocurrency worth holding, revealing that he would immediately convert it into Bitcoin. According to Brandt, owning half a million XRP would hold little appeal because he would exchange the entire position for Bitcoin.

His comments emerged during an exchange on X, where XRP supporters challenged his longstanding views about the Ripple-linked cryptocurrency. Moreover, Brandt explained that he generally places his speculative market bets through futures rather than maintaining cryptocurrency positions for wagers.

His remarks reinforce his preference for Bitcoin while renewing attention around his history of criticism toward XRP and its supporters. Meanwhile, XRP has slipped below the psychologically important $1 level, bringing Brandt’s previous bearish expectations back into view.

XRP recently traded around $0.9992, marking its first move below the $1 threshold since November 2024. Additionally, XRP remains approximately 72.6% below its $3.65 all-time high recorded on July 17, 2025.

Brandt’s XRP Criticism Returns as Price Weakens

Brandt has frequently criticized XRP and clashed with community members over the cryptocurrency’s market structure and investment prospects. In December 2025, he criticized XRP and silver bulls, arguing that both groups were particularly vulnerable to provocative market commentary.

His skepticism stretches further back, including criticism of Ripple’s relationship with XRP and the cryptocurrency’s broader market structure. However, Brandt temporarily adopted a more constructive outlook when XRP began showing stronger technical momentum during late 2024.

In November 2024, he highlighted XRP’s breakout above its 2023 high and identified what he described as a massive price coil. XRP subsequently recorded substantial gains before eventually reaching its $3.65 all-time high during July 2025.

Brandt later returned to a bearish outlook as XRP’s technical structure began showing signs of potential weakness. In March 2025, he warned that a bearish head-and-shoulders formation could potentially push the cryptocurrency toward approximately $1.07.

XRP has now fallen beneath that projected level, making Brandt’s earlier technical warning particularly relevant to current market conditions. Significantly, XRP’s price also sits slightly below Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin, which aims to maintain its value around one dollar.

However, both assets serve different purposes, since XRP trades freely while RLUSD maintains its dollar-backed stablecoin structure. Brandt’s latest remarks leave little uncertainty about his preference for Bitcoin over XRP as the Ripple-linked cryptocurrency struggles around $1.
