Palantir Technologies has quietly become one of the most consequential defense contractors in the country. The Peter Thiel-founded data company crossed $1 billion in US government contracts in fiscal year 2026, a figure that would have seemed far-fetched just a few years ago.
Under President Trump’s second term, Palantir’s transformation from niche intelligence tool to full-blown military contracting powerhouse has accelerated rapidly.
The contract pipeline keeps getting bigger
The centerpiece of Palantir’s government expansion is a $10 billion, 10-year Enterprise Agreement with the US Army, secured in July 2025. That deal consolidated multiple existing contracts into a single streamlined arrangement designed to modernize the Army’s data infrastructure.
Federal obligations to Palantir hit $970.5 million in 2025, with total historical federal awards exceeding $1.9 billion. Then came fiscal year 2026, when obligations pushed past the $1 billion mark for the first time.
The Pentagon added fuel in August 2026, issuing a memo directing up to $244 million in additional funding for Palantir’s services through March 2027. Separately, the budget ceiling for the Maven AI targeting platform, which Palantir plays a central role in operating, was raised to approximately $1.3 billion.
Maven is the Defense Department’s project for using artificial intelligence to process drone footage and other surveillance data. It was controversial when Google initially worked on it in 2018. Palantir picked up where Google’s employee protests left off.
Revenue growth that turns heads
Palantir’s US government revenue grew 84% year-over-year in the first quarter of 2026, reaching $687 million.
The company responded by raising its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to between $7.65 billion and $7.66 billion.
President Trump praised Palantir’s “war fighting capabilities” in an April 2026 social media post. Palantir has also ramped up its lobbying presence in Washington alongside its growing dependence on federal revenue.
Why the moat keeps getting wider
The $10 billion Army deal consolidated multiple contracts into one long-term agreement, embedding Palantir deeper into the service’s technology stack.
Analysts have noted that these recurring defense software agreements give Palantir unusually high revenue visibility for a tech company.
