OpenMind Report: Excluding Chinese Supply Chain Could Triple Humanoid Robot Costs in the U.S. According to on-chain news, a new analysis by robot software firm OpenMind reveals that cutting Chinese suppliers could push U.S. humanoid robot prices from $46,000 to $131,000. China leads the Physical AI Readiness Index at 82.9, while the U.S. ranks third at 69.0. The U.S. excels in computing and talent but lags at 48.5 in materials, compared to China’s 95. Critical components such as rare earth magnets and gearboxes face supply bottlenecks. FCC regulations on foreign robots could also increase costs and delay deployments. In the AI + crypto news space, supply chain challenges remain a major obstacle.

According to Forbes, OpenMind, a robotics software company, released its “Physical AI Readiness Index,” which shows that if Chinese suppliers were completely avoided, the manufacturing cost of humanoid robots currently priced at approximately $46,000 could rise to about $131,000. The report ranked China first among 58 countries with a score of 82.9, followed by Japan and the United States with scores of 69.6 and 69.0, respectively. The report notes that while the U.S. leads in computing power and talent, its scores for materials and supply chains are only 48.5—significantly lower than China’s 95. Key components such as rare-earth permanent magnets, precision reducers, ball screws, and frameless torque motors remain major bottlenecks. Meanwhile, U.S. FCC restrictions on foreign-made advanced robotics may further increase costs for domestic manufacturers and slow robot deployment in the short term.
