BlockBeats news, on July 23, according to the Wall Street Journal, OpenAI is expanding its data center capacity and increasing its budget allocation in this area. Sources revealed that OpenAI has raised its projected computing expenditure through 2030 from approximately $600 billion earlier this year to about $750 billion. This increase reflects new agreements OpenAI has reached with cloud service providers to rapidly secure the massive computing power required to develop and run its AI models.
On Wednesday, OpenAI announced it will invest $20 billion to launch a data center project named "Camellia" in Effingham County, Georgia. Sachin Katti, OpenAI’s Vice President of Computing Strategy, said the company has signed a contract with Georgia Power to secure 3.2 gigawatts of power between 2028 and 2032, with the project’s total cost expected to exceed $30 billion. This could make the facility one of OpenAI’s largest data centers to date. According to sources familiar with the matter, OpenAI has hired Brent Mayo to help ensure the data center project stays on track; he is one of the principal architects behind Musk’s data center construction initiatives.
Meanwhile, OpenAI has officially launched Presence, an enterprise AI agent platform that deeply integrates AI models with internal corporate data, policies, and business processes to provide automated solutions for scenarios such as customer service, sales, and IT support—moving beyond merely selling access to models.
