GPT-5.6 Sol was split and restrained; after being globally banned for 72 hours, Fable 5 returned in chains. Anthropic and OpenAI’s most powerful models have both been “brain-cut.”
Yesterday, OpenAI's most powerful series, GPT-5.6, was suddenly launched.
However, GPT-5.6 has been divided into three forms:

- GPT-5.6 Sol: The next-generation cutting-edge model,
- GPT-5.6 Terra: A balanced model designed for efficient daily productivity,
- GPT-5.6 Luna: A fast, cost-effective model designed for high-throughput tasks.
But the release rights for the strongest GPT-5.6 Sol are no longer in Altman’s hands at OpenAI—they are in the approved list.
Before OpenAI bowed down, Anthropic just went through a "ban crisis": Fable 5 was globally banned except for certain partner organizations.

In the era of algorithmic allocation, GPT5.6 was brutally cut.
Previously, products were recalled after issues arose; this time, the product was stopped at the door before it even left.
According to the source, OpenAI was asked to limit the release scope of GPT-5.6.

The rationale is to hold back the top few models before the nationwide AI safety framework is implemented.
It was revealed that this intervention was due to GPT-5.6 possessing capabilities "similar to Mythos," rather than a sudden escalation in enforcement measures.
After careful consideration, OpenAI has restricted access to its latest AI, allowing only a limited number of users to preview GPT-5.6.

The vast majority of ChatGPT users still need to wait several weeks for the gradual unblocking of GPT-5.6.

Mythos 5 is scary! Is Fable 5 returning as a weakened version?
Before OpenAI bowed down, another giant, Anthropic, just went through a crisis.
Two weeks ago, Anthropic released the mythic AI model Fable 5.
However, this model remained on the shelf for only 72 hours before being forcibly removed.
Out of fear. Fable 5's network offensive capabilities are terrifying.
U.S. Representative Andrew Garbarino said.

In a closed demonstration, Anthropic Mythos revealed alarming threats in the software security landscape, such as its ability to empty private bank accounts.
Andrew Garbarino says:
Anthropic instructed the model to find vulnerabilities in the banking system and empty the accounts, and the model carried out the action.
Subsequently, Mythos "was able to identify and fix this vulnerability."
This is an unprecedented "pull the plug" operation in human history.
Until recently, Mythos 5 was only permitted to open to a very limited number of "trusted partners" while under restrictions.
According to the latest report: Mythos 5 "cut-down version" Fable 5 is expected to return and launch next week.

However, Fable 5 may be significantly restricted to ensure that safety safeguards are even stronger.

When Fable 5 was first released, users discovered that typing the word "cancer" would result in being blocked by Claude.
But if the safeguards are further tightened, the user experience could become a nightmare.

Shopify CTO Mikhail Parakhin has thoroughly tested Fable 5 and GPT-5.6Max.
He believes that Anthropic's absolute advantage is gone, and GPT-5.6 has caught up to Claude Mythos.
GPT 5.6 clearly outperforms Opus 4.8 in all aspects (and is slightly faster, though this depends on the load).
Compared to Fable 5, it is clearly inferior in coding but performs better on agent workloads.

This is a rare genuine comparison between Fable 5 and GPT-5.6, but it's enough to show that Anthropic cannot yet rest easy.

If Fable 5 returns only in a diluted version, it will undoubtedly give more competitors the opportunity to catch up.
Are you buying a genius or a puppet?
What troubles developers most isn't just "not being able to buy," but "receiving something different than expected."
In the AI community, a term is spreading like a virus: “lobotomized.”
To pass through those complex security reviews, AI giants have had to equip their models with multiple layers of safeguards.
But intelligence of this kind often emerges from chaos and freedom.
When you strip away a model’s ability to explore at the level of its underlying code, cryptographic algorithms, and deep logic, what you may end up with is no longer an all-knowing "Sol," but a diminished, timid, and mediocre "Luna" with its claws removed.
You want "Prometheus's fire," but the U.S. only allows you to export "lighters."
Developers widely fear that models will be heavily restricted, even "lobotomized," with their capabilities severely diminished and intelligence drastically reduced.
Worse still, it may be limited to use in the United States or require strict identity verification, rather than the originally promised “broad, pay-to-access” availability.
There's also the issue of money.
Anthropic initially offered Fable 5 for free across multiple paid Claude subscriptions, opening access until June 22 to give users a brief window to experience its power—after which access disappeared.
No one can say for sure now: Will subscribers still be able to reclaim the originally promised “unlimited free access,” or will it be locked behind additional fees or identity verification when it returns?
Perhaps soon, we’ll look back fondly on that spring of 2023, when all you needed was an email address to summon a godlike AI.
