ChainCatcher report: The free, open-source tool REA (Reverse Engineer Anything) saw its GitHub stars surge from under 10,000 on October 6 to over 100,000 by October 12, with more than 30,000 stars added in a single day on October 11. The tool integrates AI coding assistants like Claude Code and OpenAI Codex with professional reverse engineering suites such as Ghidra, bridging them via Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP). Since its creation in April, REA remained largely unnoticed until recently; its README explicitly states that it does not claim to reconstruct original source code or automatically clone applications, nor does it include a decompiler. REA has been used in various software and game reverse engineering attempts: players made Spider-Man swing through Gotham City in *Batman: Arkham City*, inserted approximately 1,600 *Minecraft* items into *Elden Ring* to battle Boss Malenia, and modders ported *Escape from Tarkov*’s weapons and menus into *The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim*. Even legacy console exclusives are escaping their platforms—last month, enthusiasts used open-source AI models and recompilation tools to bring the never-PC-released *Fable II* to Windows; AI completed the initial launch in about an hour, followed by extensive manual fixes. Another developer enabled *GTA V* to run natively and smoothly on iOS.
