Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang showed up in Fort Worth, Texas this week to cut the ribbon on something that looks a lot like the future of American manufacturing. Wistron, the Taiwanese electronics giant, officially opened its $700 million AI server manufacturing plant, a facility purpose-built to churn out the silicon brains behind what Nvidia hopes will be one of the world’s most powerful AI supercomputers.

The facility, dubbed D1, spans 324,000 square feet and represents Wistron’s first factory on American soil. It’s designed to produce Nvidia’s GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Superchip at a pace of tens of thousands of boards per month.

From announcement to assembly line in under a year

The speed here is notable. Wistron announced a $761 million investment in Texas back in October 2025. Fort Worth won the site selection over competing locations in August 2025. And by July 2026, the factory doors were open and boards were rolling off the line.

Huang framed the project as part of a broader effort to re-industrialize the United States through advanced manufacturing. The facility’s planning and operations were built using Nvidia’s own Omniverse technology, which creates digital twins of physical environments.

The plant is expected to support roughly 1,000 jobs by the end of 2026. Wistron’s stock apparently agreed with the strategy. Shares rose approximately 9.7% following the announcement of the facility’s opening.

The onshoring wave gets real

Wistron joins TSMC, Foxconn, and others in the growing list of Taiwanese firms planting flags in the American Southwest and Southeast. The difference is that Wistron’s facility isn’t fabricating raw chips. It’s assembling the finished superchip boards that go into AI servers, which means it sits at a different, and increasingly critical, point in the value chain.

Nvidia has publicly committed to sourcing more AI infrastructure domestically, including an initiative to infuse up to $500 billion into U.S. AI infrastructure, with parallel undertakings such as Foxconn’s prospective facility in Houston.

What this means for crypto and AI-adjacent markets

For crypto investors, the relevance is both direct and structural. Nvidia’s GPUs have long been the workhorses of cryptocurrency mining, and the company’s pivot toward AI hasn’t diminished the overlap between AI compute infrastructure and blockchain validation hardware.
