The UK-based AI data center startup Nscale has recently appointed Fidji Simo, former executive at OpenAI, Meta, and Instacart, to its board. The company is preparing for an IPO, which is expected to launch this fall.
The board welcomes another distinguished member.
Simo previously served as the Head of AGI Deployment at OpenAI and spent over a decade at Meta before becoming Chairman and CEO of Instacart, leading the company through its 2023 IPO. She currently continues to advise OpenAI on a part-time basis.
Josh Payne, founder and CEO of Nscale, said that Simo understands how to drive product scaling for billions of users and appreciates the demands such businesses place on underlying systems. The company stated that this was a key capability they prioritized when forming their board.
Strengthen the management team before listing
Nscale’s board also includes prominent figures from the tech industry, such as Sheryl Sandberg, Susan Decker, and Nick Clegg. The company aims to leverage enhanced governance and industry expertise in preparation for its public listing.
According to Bloomberg last week, citing anonymous sources, Nscale is also seeking up to $3.5 billion in funding. Just two years after its founding, the company’s valuation has surged rapidly due to growing demand for AI infrastructure.
