IT Home, October 12 news: According to Japanese media Coelho yesterday (October 11), Bill van Zyll, Vice President and General Manager of Nintendo Latin America, stated during an interview at the 2026 Brazil Game Show that Nintendo currently has no plans to abandon physical game cartridges.

Bill explained that Nintendo has always been neutral, taking consumer preferences into account when making product distribution decisions. The latest Switch 2 platform supports both digital games and physical cartridges; we have no plans to abandon physical game cartridges, and we understand how much fans love them.
According to previous reports from IT Home, Sony has announced that, starting January 2028, it will no longer release new games on physical discs for the PlayStation platform, and future PlayStation consoles will gradually transition to a fully digital model—a decision that has sparked controversy among players.
In September, Microsoft conducted a user survey regarding the features of its next-generation Xbox console, Project Helix, asking players whether the new console should support physical discs. Additionally, Xbox has recently introduced a feature that allows users to convert eligible physical disc games into digital licenses linked to their digital accounts.
