Brief Information
- NIP Group (owner of the esports team Ninjas in Pyjamas) acquired its third batch of Bitcoin mining rigs in exchange for over 247 million shares of Class A common stock.
- The company stated that its current hash rate is approximately 13.85 EH/s, sufficient to mine about 195 bitcoins per month, equivalent to around $2.8 million at current prices.
- The CEO told Decrypt that if returns are better than mining, the company may shift its computing power to artificial intelligence calculations in the future.
NIP Group, which owns the legendary esports team Ninjas in Pyjamas, has acquired its third batch of Bitcoin mining rigs by issuing over 247 million shares of Class A common stock.
Hicham Chahine, founder and CEO of NIP Group, told Decrypt that he wants to bet on Bitcoin mining when the market is "cooling down," rather than during periods of high热度 and intense competition. He added that these facilities may also be used for artificial intelligence in the future.
Chahine said, "With this batch of transactions now complete, our hash rate is approximately 13.85 EH/s, placing us among the largest publicly traded mining companies globally, with a monthly production of about 195 bitcoins."
This is real income, and it supports everything we are building. This year, we reviewed every aspect of NIP Group’s business—not just mining. Our only goal in making decisions was to achieve better profit margins and a clear path to profitability. Mining had to prove its value during this review—and it did.
Previously, the esports team expanded its Bitcoin operations last year, aiming to mine 160 Bitcoin per month. This latest acquisition increases the target by 35 Bitcoin, bringing it to 195 Bitcoin per month, equivalent to approximately $2.8 million at current prices.
Chahine told Decrypt that NIP Group is optimistic about the prospects of this direction and added that the deployment of the third batch of Bitcoin mining machines will require "minimal startup time."
NIP Group is a digital entertainment company known for its esports and gaming operations. It owns Ninjas in Pyjamas, which fields professional teams in titles such as Counter-Strike 2, Valorant, League of Legends, and Rocket League.
According to Yahoo Finance data, since last week’s Bitcoin announcement, NIP Group’s stock ticker NIPG has dropped from $6.74 to $4.00, a decline of 40.7%, marking its all-time low. Meanwhile, Decrypt data shows that Bitcoin fell 2% during the same period to $79,820.
The Future of Artificial Intelligence
Chahine explained that if market demand changes, these acquired facilities can be repurposed for artificial intelligence infrastructure.
He told Decrypt: “We’ll look at how much AI and high-performance computing customers are actually willing to pay, how long they’re willing to commit, and whether this demand is sustained or temporary. When these workloads clearly and consistently outperform mining—not just for a couple of weeks—we may shift our hashing power. If the data shows it’s time to switch, we’ll switch.”
Of course, any future transition would require significant effort, as Bitcoin mining rigs cannot be instantly converted into AI data centers like flipping a switch. But Chahine says that the surrounding infrastructure of mining facilities provides a solid foundation for the conditions required by AI and high-performance computing.
“When we talk about AI, we mean leveraging this site and our expertise to perform compute-intensive work when economic conditions are favorable,” he said. “We are fundamentally a gaming and entertainment company, and it makes sense to house our infrastructure and entertainment under one roof.”
