Nine blockchain organizations form Quantum Alliance, warning that 6.4 million bitcoins are at risk. According to Bitcoin.com News on October 17, the Quantum Alliance was established in Lisbon on October 15 by nine organizations—Quantus, American Fortress, Intmax, Keystone, Midnight Foundation, Postquant Labs, Abelian, The Vault, and Hacken—with the goal of establishing unified security standards before quantum computers become capable of breaking wallet signatures. The alliance estimates that between 6.04 million and 6.4 million bitcoins (approximately 30% of the total supply) have their public keys exposed on-chain, including around 1.1 million linked to Satoshi Nakamoto’s early holdings. However, it emphasized that no quantum computer currently exists with the capability to carry out such attacks. Its "Quantum Doomsday Clock" sets a threshold of approximately 856,000 physical qubits, identifying March 2028 as an early possible window. The alliance does not issue a new blockchain; instead, it publishes open testing and migration guidelines modeled after IETF standards. Quantus founder Christopher Smith stated that in the future, "post-quantum cryptography" will simply be called "cryptography."

On October 15 in Lisbon, nine blockchain companies launched the Quantum Alliance to establish security standards in anticipation of quantum threats. The group estimates that 6.04 to 6.4 million Bitcoin—30% of the total supply—are at risk, including 1.1 million linked to early Satoshi addresses. No current quantum computer can break these signatures. The alliance will not build a new blockchain but will collaborate with the IETF to release open migration and testing guidelines. This blockchain news underscores a major initiative to future-proof the network.
