ChainCatcher report: On November 2, the NFT project Robin Guards published a lengthy article titled “How Crypto Twitter KOLs Scam Projects (With Proof).” The project stated that it collaborated with approximately 200 KOLs, collectively amassing over 10 million followers, yet ultimately sold only 200 NFTs, yielding a conversion rate of roughly 0.002%. Robin Guards claimed that after refusing to continue paying for promotional efforts, the same individuals began labeling the project a scam. The article explicitly names multiple KOLs it previously worked with, demanding explanations for behaviors such as purchasing fake engagement, posting in engagement groups, and fabricating influence. Robin Guards noted that these KOLs initially posted positive promotions urging their followers to participate; however, upon learning they would not be paid for bot-generated posts, engagement group boosts, AI-generated replies, or sudden spikes in views following posts, they abruptly rebranded the project as fraudulent. The project also revealed that the account grebby began accusing it of fraud the previous day—despite this account itself selling fake followers and fake engagement services, some of the named KOLs having previously purchased so-called “smart followers” and artificial engagement from grebby. Robin Guards stated it has included screenshots in the article and emphasized that it has been active in this space for two years and has participated in similar engagement groups. Robin Guards noted that such accounts typically seek around $50 per post, asserting that genuine influence does not require purchasing artificial metrics. The project advises other teams to examine reach-to-view ratios, check for duplicate reply accounts, and request actual conversion results from past campaigns rather than relying on screenshots of view counts. Robin Guards’ account previously described itself as the privacy layer of Robinhood Chain; its current bio now reads: “A project targeted by fake KOLs on Crypto Twitter.”
