Neutrl halted minting and redemptions on August 13, 2026, following a protocol update and legal guidance to evaluate reserve impacts. The move affects NUSD, which trades at $0.9983 with a $53.3 million market cap. Strata also paused minting for srNUSD and jrNUSD. No details were given on the cause or affected assets. The timing coincides with ongoing Federal Reserve news, though no direct link was stated.

Neutrl, which aims to provide market-neutral yield, paused minting, redemptions, and other protocol functions on Thursday, citing circumstances affecting protocol reserves. NUSD, the protocol’s synthetic dollar, had a market capitalization of about $53.3 million.

Neutrl said it acted on advice from legal counsel to preserve an orderly process while the impact is assessed. The announcement did not identify the cause, name an affected asset or counterparty, or quantify the impact on reserves.

The protocol said users would receive a “clear and orderly process” in due course and that it would share timing and next steps when available.

Strata, which offers structured yield products, subsequently paused minting, redemptions and related functions on its Neutrl market contracts. Strata said the restriction applies only to that market and that its other markets continue operating normally.

Strata Pauses Neutrl Contract Functions

Strata offers two tokens built on yield-bearing sNUSD: senior-tranche srNUSD and junior-tranche jrNUSD. Its documentation describes the junior tranche as first-loss capital intended to absorb underlying strategy risks before the senior tranche.

Etherscan displayed an onchain market capitalization of about $1.4 million for srNUSD and approximately $308,506 for jrNUSD.

Under normal conditions, Strata users can redeem srNUSD or jrNUSD for NUSD or sNUSD. Fees and cooldowns vary by tranche and the market’s senior-coverage level. Those minting and redemption functions are now paused for the Neutrl market.

At the time of CoinGecko’s snapshot, NUSD traded at $0.9983. CoinGecko based the price on one tracked exchange and one market and showed the price was little changed.

Announcement Gives No Cause or Scale

Neutrl’s documentation says NUSD may be backed by a mix of OTC-acquired crypto assets, stablecoins and market-neutral positions. It also says liquid reserves may be used to meet redemption demand where practicable.

The pause announcement did not say which part of that reserve mix was affected, or whether the circumstances involved a realized loss, a liquidity constraint or a counterparty issue. Neutrl’s next update is expected to provide the timing and process for users while minting and redemptions remain paused.
