If you follow tech news and enjoy dramatic stories, it’s a great time to be alive. This fall, alongside Nathan Fielder’s documentary about Elizabeth Holmes, Netflix will also release The Altruists.
The series tells the story of Sam Bankman-Fried, Caroline Ellison, and the scandal surrounding FTX, which ultimately led to FTX’s collapse and the imprisonment of both individuals. The Altruists will be released on November 19.
If everything goes according to plan, this will perfectly coincide with Thanksgiving—provided another notorious Sam doesn’t ruin our holiday plans again.

We can’t say we were surprised that Hollywood took interest in the ethical disconnect surrounding effective altruism, but we hope Netflix captures the strangeness of this story.
In a summer interview with Netflix, co-creator Graham Moore said: "From the beginning, I was deeply fascinated by the true story of Sam and Caroline. These two characters are ones I could never have invented even if I tried—I’m not that skilled at creating characters as compelling as Sam Bankman-Fried or Caroline Ellison."
