The NEAR Protocol official has announced that NEAR accounts now support the post-quantum ML-DSA signature scheme, allowing users to upgrade their keys without any asset migration. Meanwhile, the NEAR One team is advancing the NEP-655 proposal, which derives implicit accounts from an initial state hash, storing assets after the hash without exposing any public keys or key hashes on-chain; this feature is currently live on the testnet and is expected to launch on mainnet within weeks. Additionally, the team is designing NEAR Intents Wallet Contracts that support customizable signature extensions—including ML-DSA and hash-based schemes—and is developing a NEAR-based Q-day recovery registry for external chains that have not yet deployed post-quantum keys, enabling users to submit recovery keys in a rotatable hash format. NEAR states that its quantum-safe design principles were incorporated into its architecture as early as 2018.

NEAR Protocol has deployed a protocol update supporting post-quantum ML-DSA signatures, enabling users to upgrade their keys without migrating assets. The NEAR One team is also advancing NEP-655, which introduces implicit accounts for on-chain privacy. The feature is now live on testnet and scheduled for mainnet deployment soon. The team is additionally developing NEAR Intents Wallet Contracts with custom signature extensions and a Q-day recovery registry for cross-chain use.
