Elon Musk plans to gift one SpaceX share to each American child under 18, valued at $10.8 billion. The move, part of Musk’s 1% stake in the company, follows discussions with the Trump administration and a similar pledge by Anthropic. Trump praised the initiative on social media, aligning it with Trump Accounts. The gesture may boost Musk’s public image and influence corporate strategy. On-chain data shows growing interest in altcoins to watch, as market sentiment shifts toward high-profile corporate actions.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said Monday that Musk would give every American child one share in the AI and space exploration company. The gift could be worth roughly $10.8 billion, based on SpaceX's current share price and the U.S. Census estimate of under-18s living in the United States. The donation would represent roughly 1% of Musk's current SpaceX holdings. The gift, if realized, would far exceed a similar $6.25 billion gift from Michael Dell.

Musk and the Trump administration originally discussed the share donations this summer, when Trump Accounts were first launched. Musk announced the pledge Monday in response to a social media post from Anthropic. Anthropic said the company would commit 5% of Anthropic's listed equities to a public benefit fund. President Donald Trump later thanked Musk on social media. Trump wrote, "This is exactly what was envisioned when we created Trump Accounts."

The pledge leaves open what voting rights the donated shares would carry. SpaceX has a dual-class stock structure, and Musk has supermajority control of SpaceX. Recent regulatory changes allow individual equities to be held in Trump Accounts. The childhood savings program has been a flagship initiative of the Trump administration. Musk and a Treasury spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.

Musk has not been a major philanthropist relative to Musk's wealth. Musk has previously argued that building great companies is the best way Musk can benefit humanity. However, the planned donation makes more sense as a strategic move than as philanthropy. The donation could generate goodwill from a skeptical public toward Musk, Musk's companies and goals including space exploration, self-driving cars and AI. Other businesses could also gain favorable publicity if those businesses made similar donations. Such businesses could possibly build a friendly shareholder group that helps protect against shareholders who disagree with the businesses' strategic direction.
