Multicoin Capital has disclosed that Hyperliquid's HYPE token is its largest hedge fund investment. The $2.7 billion crypto firm acquired the tokens from the public market, according to new token listings data. General Partner Spencer Applebaum confirmed the position, as the firm continues to focus on token launch news and crypto-native opportunities. While others pivot to AI, Multicoin remains committed to its core crypto strategy.

Multicoin Capital, a leading investment firm in the cryptocurrency sector, announced that it will continue to focus on digital assets at a time when its competitors are shifting towards the artificial intelligence (AI) sector. It was revealed that the largest position in the company’s hedge fund is in Hyperliquid’s native token, HYPE.

According to Bloomberg, Multicoin Capital, which manages approximately $2.7 billion in assets, believes its expertise in the cryptocurrency sector gives it a significant competitive advantage.

Spencer Applebaum, the company’s general partner and co-head of its venture capital unit, revealed in an interview with Bloomberg that the Hyperliquid (HYPE) token is the largest investment position in Multicoin’s hedge fund.

Applebaum stated that the HYPE tokens in question were purchased from the public market, but did not share any figures regarding the total size of the investment.

While leading cryptocurrency investment firms like Paradigm, Framework Ventures, and Haun Ventures have recently expanded their investment strategies into the field of artificial intelligence, Multicoin Capital is choosing a different path.

Applebaum stated that they trust the company’s experience in the cryptocurrency sector, and added the following:

“We believe we have a competitive advantage in the cryptocurrency sector and we want to stick with it.”

Although the process of converting the last venture capital fund raised by Multicoin Capital in 2022 into investment took longer than expected, the company does not plan to invest only in startups operating in the field of artificial intelligence.

In contrast, rival company Paradigm has created a new investment fund this year worth $1.2 billion, encompassing the artificial intelligence and robotics sectors.

Investments in cryptocurrency ventures continue. According to Galaxy Research data, approximately $20 billion will be invested in the sector throughout 2025, while this figure reached $10 billion in the first half of 2026.
