MSTR Stock Price Rises as Strategy Revises Bitcoin Allocation

During its second-quarter earnings call, Strategy (MSTR) said it would continue selling Bitcoin whenever management believes doing so supports the company’s financial objectives. The company said proceeds could replenish its U.S. dollar reserve, fund preferred dividends, cover interest payments, and support authorized share repurchases.

Management also announced that future capital raises will no longer flow entirely into Bitcoin purchases. Instead, Strategy will dynamically allocate proceeds between Bitcoin holdings and U.S. dollar reserves according to market conditions.

The company added that it is not considering Bitcoin-backed borrowing because of counterparty exposure and margin risks.

The amended method is a shift from Strategy’s previous routine of directing new capital almost solely toward expanding its Bitcoin holdings. The company said the updated framework provides greater flexibility in managing liquidity while supporting its financial commitments.

Strategy Extends Bitcoin Buying Pause

The Strategy (MSTR) announcement followed reports that Strategy made no Bitcoin purchases or sales between July 20 and July 26, the latest filing by the firm showed. That period marked the third consecutive week without adding to its Bitcoin holdings.

The company’s Bitcoin portfolio remains unchanged at 843,775 BTC, Strategy reported. The Bitcoin treasury firm acquired those holdings for approximately $63.69 billion, representing an average purchase price of about $75,476 per Bitcoin.

Instead of expanding its Bitcoin position, the company opted to focus on adding to its liquidity. Strategy sold 5.42 million Class A common shares and yielded about $544.5 million in net proceeds. Those transactions increased its U.S. dollar reserve to $3.75 billion.

The earnings update also confirmed that Strategy intends to continue using Bitcoin sales when appropriate to strengthen reserves, fund dividend obligations, and support share repurchase programs.

At the same time, the management pointed out that future capital allocation will balance Bitcoin acquisitions with cash reserves rather than directing all the new funds toward additional crypto purchases.
