Morgan Stanley reported on August 3 that on-chain data indicates strong demand for HDDs and SSDs in data centers. TSR forecasts enterprise SSD shipment capacity to reach 525 EB by 2026, doubling from current levels. In June 2026, enterprise SSD shipment capacity was 46.33 EB, up 124.5% year-over-year. AI and data center spending are driving storage demand, though supply chain bottlenecks are expanding. Inflation data suggests continued pressure on component pricing.

Huoxing Finance reports that on August 3, Morgan Stanley released a report stating that June HDD/SSD data continued to indicate strong demand for data centers. TSR forecasts that enterprise SSD shipment capacity for data centers will reach 525 EB in 2026, a 100% year-over-year increase; nearline HDD shipment capacity for data centers will reach 1,845 EB, up 30.4% year-over-year. The report shows that in June, enterprise SSD shipment capacity for data centers was 46.33 EB, up 124.5% year-over-year and 12.0% month-over-month. During the same period, enterprise SSD shipment volume reached 6.35 million units, up 41.1% year-over-year and 8.9% month-over-month. Morgan Stanley believes that as the proportion of high-capacity products increases, SSD shipment capacity growth will continue to outpace unit shipment growth. For HDDs, nearline HDD production in June was 7.03 million units, up 12.3% year-over-year and down slightly by 0.6% month-over-month. TSR forecasts that nearline HDD production will reach 84.39 million units in 2026, up 12.8% year-over-year. However, the report notes that future increases in nearline HDD production may be constrained by head and test capacity limitations. Overall, AI and data center capital expenditures continue to drive demand for storage capacity, but supply chain bottlenecks are now spreading from end devices to critical component segments.
