Citing Forklog, French AI startup Mistral has released the third version of its open-weight model series, including a large multimodal and multilingual LLM and nine smaller models optimized for specific tasks. The company, founded by DeepMind and Meta alumni, positions itself as a key European competitor to U.S. and Chinese AI giants. The flagship Large 3 model uses a Granular Mixture of Experts architecture and features a 256,000-token context window. Mistral also announced collaborations with Singapore's Home Team Science and Technology Agency, German defense startup Helsing, and Stellantis to integrate compact models into robots, drones, and vehicles.
