ME AI News, Dongcha Beating AI Brief: Mirendil is negotiating a new funding round with a valuation of up to $5 billion, aiming to raise as much as $1 billion. Kleiner Perkins is in talks to lead the round, and a16z may also continue investing. The deal has not yet been finalized. Just three months ago, Mirendil completed a $200 million seed round at a $1 billion valuation, led by a16z and Kleiner Perkins, with NVIDIA later joining. If this round closes under current terms, Mirendil’s valuation would increase fivefold within a single quarter. Mirendil was founded by former Anthropic researchers Behnam Neyshabur and Harsh Mehta, and currently has a team of just over 20 people. The company focuses on “self-accelerating AI”: enabling AI to autonomously participate in designing experiments, training, evaluating, and optimizing models, gradually automating the research workflows traditionally performed by AI scientists. The company is clearly still in a heavy investment phase: in August, it signed a multi-year partnership with Google Cloud, with TechCrunch reporting the contract value exceeding $100 million, involving both TPUs and NVIDIA GPUs. The new funding will primarily support the release of its own models and continued training of subsequent models, with the first cutting-edge model targeting engineering and research slated for launch in early next year.
