ChainThink reports that, on August 10, according to The Information, Microsoft’s in-house AI chip project, after a slow start, is showing signs of recovery, with plans to significantly increase MAIA chip production and expand internal usage.
Microsoft believes the MAIA chip can run its proprietary models and OpenAI’s models at a lower cost, while also actively pursuing major clients. It is reported that Microsoft plans to launch its next-generation MAIA 300 AI chip in September 2026.
In addition, Microsoft has been in talks with TSMC to secure production capacity for over 300,000 MAIA chips, with plans for delivery by 2027.
