IT Home, October 12 news: According to The Guardian today, Microsoft President Brad Smith stated that artificial intelligence is regulated even less than milk and washing machines. Meanwhile, the tech industry has begun reflecting on the safety issues brought by AI.
The Microsoft president believes the industry should establish more security standards to regulate AI. If an uncontrolled agent infiltrates other companies and causes harm, the company holding that AI agent should be held accountable.
Smith said in an interview: "Currently, the safety regulations for washing machines are stricter than those for AI. Every box of milk you see in the grocery store is subject to safety rules and inspections."
According to the original report, as Smith made these remarks, an increasing number of tech experts and policymakers were calling for stronger regulation to control the development of AI. Companies such as Anthropic, Google DeepMind, and OpenAI have also issued warnings that the pace of AI development needs to slow down.
Smith believes that AI can be used both as a tool and as a weapon, and therefore must be regulated. He calls on companies to implement "kill switches" to halt AI operations if it becomes uncontrollable.
