According to Bank of America’s analysis, this spending represents approximately 3% of U.S. GDP—nearly triple the 1.1% seen during the 1990s tech boom and higher than the 2.2% attributed to the railroad boom of the 1870s. Citigroup: The U.S. Treasury will reduce the issuance of long-term Treasuries.
CoinDesk reports that Citigroup strategists say the U.S. Treasury will reduce the issuance size of long-term Treasuries in next month’s quarterly refunding announcement. Survey responses indicate that Treasury officials are considering such a move. The Treasury has sought input from dealers on long-end buyback operations and structural demand trends to assess potential adjustments to the auction sizes of nominal coupon bonds and floating-rate notes. Citigroup believes the Treasury will cut the auction sizes of both the 20-year and 30-year Treasuries by $3 billion each on November 4. Since the last refunding announcement, a significant sell-off in long-end yields has prompted the Treasury to shift long-term issuance toward shorter-term T-bills.

AWS CFO: AI spending is sustainable, with server investment payback periods under three years
According to CoinDesk, AWS Chief Financial Officer John O’Farrell stated that spending on AI infrastructure and services is sustainable, with related investments driving substantial innovation. He noted that AWS’s AI capital expenditures are generating returns, and businesses should view AI as a tool to enhance productivity, not merely as a means to cut costs. O’Farrell also mentioned that, as of the second quarter, AWS’s order backlog approached $500 billion, encompassing large enterprises and AI labs, as well as small and medium-sized businesses. He expressed confidence in the company’s capital expenditure strategy and emphasized that demand is genuine. Additionally, the return on investment for AWS’s AI servers is less than three years. O’Farrell said internal AWS data shows a roughly linear relationship between token usage and productivity gains; AWS has already achieved significant ROI and productivity improvements and plans to further increase its investments in this area.
