Huo Xing Finance reports that on September 12, Micron Technology announced record bonuses for its employees in Taiwan for fiscal year 2026, with some employees receiving bonuses equivalent to up to 68 months of salary and a minimum cash compensation of NT$1.7 million (approximately $538,000). Junior engineers received an average total bonus of approximately NT$3.4 million, along with annual equity grants. However, the Taoyuan Union, representing about two-thirds of Micron’s employees in Taiwan, has rejected the current proposal, insisting that 15% of the company’s operating profits be allocated to employee bonuses and stating that if the company does not respond to their demands, they will proceed with strike actions. Micron currently employs approximately 15,000 people in Taiwan and has invested over NT$1.6 trillion cumulatively. This increase in bonus incentives is believed to be related to profit-sharing mechanisms adopted by South Korean memory chip manufacturers. Earlier this year, Samsung Electronics, under pressure from union strikes, agreed to establish a special bonus pool equivalent to 10.5% of its memory chip division’s operating profits. As labor negotiations between Micron and its Taiwanese workforce enter a critical phase, a potential actual strike could disrupt Micron’s production schedule and further destabilize global memory chip supply.
Micron Offers Up to 68 Months’ Salary in Bonuses to Taiwan Employees Amid Union Threat of Strike

Micron increased its fiscal year 2026 bonus for Taiwan staff, offering up to 68 months of salary in rewards, as the Taoyuan Labor Union prepares for strike action. Entry-level engineers received an average of approximately 3.4 million TWD, plus annual equity grants. The union rejected the offer, demanding bonuses equal to 15% of operating profit. With 15,000 employees and a 160 billion TWD investment, Micron’s move reflects a shift in risk-to-reward dynamics amid global labor pressures. Similar to value investing in crypto, the company seeks to balance long-term stability with worker demands.
