Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor says Bitcoin will climb back above $100,000, even as Strategy remains willing to sell some holdings. Saylor said on Tuesday that Bitcoin recently rebounded from its 200-week moving average and now trades at a 25% premium above that average. Saylor identified favorable regulation, accelerating bank adoption and growing tokenized securities activity as factors making conditions more favorable for Bitcoin.
Saylor argued that artificial intelligence spending is drawing capital away from traditional equities built on human labor. Saylor argued that this shift pushes investors toward scarce assets that robots cannot replicate. Saylor called Bitcoin "the king of commodities" and described Bitcoin as digital capital competing with gold and other scarce assets for investment.
Strategy sold a small amount of Bitcoin in June when Bitcoin traded near $73,000, departing from Saylor's long-standing advice never to sell. Saylor described Strategy as a structured finance company that can buy or sell Bitcoin, dollars, equity or credit on any given day to benefit shareholders. Saylor said the initial sale briefly frightened the market and pushed Bitcoin lower. Saylor said later sales of thousands of Bitcoin drew no market reaction. Saylor said the market rose after one of those sales. Saylor argued that a permanent commitment never to sell would ultimately hurt Strategy's value rather than protect that value.
Strategy has acquired more Bitcoin than any company in the world this year. Strategy expects that trend to continue as Bitcoin enters what Saylor calls a bull market. Saylor said Strategy plans to continue issuing digital credit products such as STRC alongside Bitcoin purchases.
Saylor recommended money market funds for investors who need money within three months. Saylor recommended STRC, which pays a 10% to 12% dividend, for investors who need money in three months to four years. Saylor recommended direct Bitcoin ownership for investors seeking lower risk who do not need money for four or more years, targeting 20% to 30% annual returns. Saylor recommended Strategy or Strive equity for investors seeking to outperform Bitcoin through returns amplified by credit issuance.
Saylor said Bitcoin has returned roughly 38% annually since Strategy's first purchase in August 2020. Saylor said MSTR stock has returned 52% to 53% annually over the same period, outperforming every major stock except Nvidia. Saylor argued that Strategy's ability to issue high-yield credit backed by Bitcoin holdings provides an advantage that no exchange-traded fund or direct Bitcoin purchase can replicate.
