ChainCatcher report, according to The Block, Japanese publicly traded company Metaplanet acquired Siiibo Securities, which holds a license for dealing in financial instruments, gaining approval to design and sell securities in Japan. Research firm Benchmark noted that the market generally views this approximately 2.1 billion yen (about $13 million) acquisition as a modest expansion. However, Metaplanet actually plans to issue Bitcoin-collateralized bonds, called “Bitbonds,” with an annualized yield of 4%–6%, and subsequently migrate them on-chain for settlement via stablecoins, gradually establishing a secondary market. Metaplanet aims to enable companies seeking to adopt a Bitcoin balance sheet strategy to issue bonds on its platform to purchase BTC, and under its “Project Nova” roadmap, build a new type of financial institution centered around Bitcoin. The company currently holds approximately 43,000 BTC, making it the third-largest Bitcoin corporate treasury globally.
