Sensor Tower data reported by Yahoo Finance on Tuesday showed that Meta Platforms' Muse AI agent reached 10.9 million downloads following its September launch. US downloads accounted for more than 10.2 million of that total, indicating substantial early adoption in the domestic market. Sensor Tower's data showed that just 11 other applications had passed the US download threshold of 10 million within 40 days. Meta's Threads most recently achieved that milestone in July 2023.
Sensor Tower estimated that Muse first exceeded 2.5 million daily active users on October 16. Sensor Tower estimated that the user count increased 15% week over week during the preceding seven-day period. However, the same report showed that US downloads of OpenAI's ChatGPT declined 25% in the latest 30-day period from the preceding 30 days. Meta and OpenAI did not immediately answer requests for comment.
Meta is scheduled to announce third-quarter earnings after markets close on Wednesday. Yahoo Finance reported that a Deutsche Bank analyst said earlier this month that Muse could eventually generate as much as 8% of Meta's revenue by 2030. CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during Meta's July second-quarter earnings call that personal AI agents would form the basis for Meta's next phase of product development and monetization. Zuckerberg said Meta was developing personal agents to support new products and revenue sources over the coming months and years.
However, Muse also faces scrutiny concerning controls over data sharing. Meta suspended Muse's conversation-sharing feature on Tuesday after security researchers warned that public domain name system (DNS) records could reveal thousands of shared conversation links. Claroc researchers said Muse created predictable sharing URLs that included conversation titles and followed a shared domain structure. Claroc researchers reported that about 6,800 conversations were exposed.
Benzinga Pro data showed that Meta shares had gained 5.18% year to date. Meta shares traded at $692.30 in Wednesday's premarket session, down 0.28%.
