IT Home, October 10: According to a report by The Wall Street Journal yesterday, Meta has put on hold its plan to lease AI computing power to Anthropic.
The report states that earlier this year, Anthropic’s CEO Dario Amodei personally called Meta’s Chief AI Officer, Alexandr Wang, seeking to lease AI computing chips from the competitor. Meta internally discussed the matter and ultimately decided not to provide them.
As Meta's self-developed Muse series models are gradually released, its AI business has rapidly recovered from an earlier downturn, and its demand for computing power has surged significantly. At this point, selling computing power to Anthropic would amount to strengthening a competitor.

The report notes that the allocation of computing resources is influencing employment choices among AI talent, with Noam Shazeer, a core author of the Transformer architecture, leaving Google for the second time due to insufficient computing power. Meanwhile, numerous commitments to build computing capacity have ultimately failed to materialize, constraining the development of the AI industry.
