Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg told analysts on Wednesday's third-quarter earnings call that Meta can achieve superintelligence by increasing the scale of its models. Zuckerberg described Meta's progress as methodical. Meta is already training larger models beyond its frontier model, Muse Wonder. Zuckerberg expects the larger models to deliver substantially greater capabilities.
Meta plans to develop more advanced frontier models while producing smaller, more efficient versions through distillation for personal agents such as Muse. More than 10 million users across the U.S. and Canada have configured Muse. Zuckerberg expects a smaller model to provide today's intelligence at substantially lower cost within a year. However, Zuckerberg does not expect most people to want today's level of model intelligence by then. Zuckerberg said revenue, efficiency and model development must all improve to finance and sustain the expansion of computing capacity.
Meta forecasts capital expenditures of $135 billion to $145 billion for 2026. CFO Susan Li said Meta will maintain aggressive investment in its core business and emerging AI initiatives. Meta announced plans to distribute a new class of non-voting shares to shareholders in January. The new shares will allow Zuckerberg to retain control while giving Meta another means of raising money for its AI expansion.
Meta reported third-quarter revenue of $64.6 billion, exceeding analysts' forecast of $63.37 billion, according to Benzinga Pro. Adjusted earnings reached $7.40 per share, compared with expectations of $5.74. Meta raised its full-year 2026 expense forecast to a range of $175 billion to $179 billion from $165 billion to $169 billion. The revised forecast includes a $9.9 billion charge related to legal proceedings during the quarter.
Meta shares finished Wednesday at $697.52, a gain of 0.47%. Meta shares then gained 2.17% to $712.65 in extended trading following the results. Benzinga Edge places Meta's Momentum score in the 59th percentile. Benzinga Edge places Meta's Growth score in the 74th percentile.
