Mastercard launched Agent Connect, a tool to streamline AI-driven commerce for merchants. The platform supports product discovery, cart suggestions, and verified transactions. Agent Pay secures payments via verifiable intents. The U.S. rollout includes partners like Samsung and Trip.com. This AI + crypto news marks a step in digital commerce evolution. New token listings remain a key focus for exchanges tracking such innovations.

Mastercard just rolled out Agent Connect, a new product designed to give merchants a single integration point for plugging into the emerging world of AI-powered shopping. The tool is part of an expanded Agent Suite that aims to connect AI agents, digital platforms, and payment providers into one coherent experience.

What Agent Connect actually does

Agent Connect supports what Mastercard describes as a three-stage shopping journey. First, AI agents help consumers discover products. Then they build cart recommendations. Finally, they secure consumer-authorized transactions within various AI ecosystems.

The system is designed to let merchants maintain control over their branding, pricing, and customer relationships, even when an AI agent is doing the browsing.

Alongside Agent Connect, Mastercard expanded its Agent Suite with AI shopping agent capabilities and introduced Agent Pay, a system focused on securing transactions through what the company calls “verifiable intents.” The AI agent can only complete a purchase when it has explicit, tokenized authorization from the consumer.

Jorn Lambert, Mastercard’s Chief Product Officer, framed the launch in terms of merchant empowerment. He noted that AI agents are set to redefine the purchasing interface, and that these tools would help businesses prepare for that future while maintaining control over their destiny.

Partners and rollout

The initial rollout targets the US market, with partners including Samsung and Trip.com. Bemobi, the Brazilian digital services platform, is also set to utilize these capabilities.

Mastercard’s broader AI bet

This isn’t Mastercard’s first move into AI-driven services. The company says one in three of its services already leverage AI technology. Agent Connect builds on that foundation, extending AI from back-office fraud detection and analytics into the consumer-facing transaction layer.

Agent Pay’s emphasis on tokenization and consent-based payments reflects lessons learned from decades of card-not-present fraud. Extending those protections to AI agent transactions is table stakes for making agentic commerce viable at scale.
