  • Mastercard completed the acquisition of Ripple partner BVNK, expanding stablecoin payment infrastructure across global business networks and institutional settlements.
  • BVNK supports XRP payments and works with Ripple to improve enterprise liquidity through multichain financial infrastructure spanning 130 countries.
  • Mastercard also links Ripple through the Crypto Partner Program and Multi-Token Network, reinforcing blockchain interoperability without issuing its own digital currency.

Mastercard has officially completed its acquisition of fintech platform BVNK, bringing a long-time Ripple partner into its expanding stablecoin payments strategy. The deal strengthens Mastercard’s blockchain payment infrastructure while reinforcing its role as a bridge between traditional finance and digital assets.

Instead of developing its own digital currency, Mastercard is expanding the infrastructure that allows businesses to move money across both conventional and blockchain-based payment networks. The acquisition comes as the global stablecoin market has grown beyond $309 billion, increasing demand for enterprise-grade settlement solutions.

BVNK provides payment infrastructure across more than 130 countries, allowing businesses to convert, hold, transfer and store both fiat currencies and digital assets. Consequently, Mastercard plans to integrate those capabilities into its own network to improve cross-border business payments, treasury operations and settlement services for banks and fintech companies.

Mastercard Chief Product Officer Jorn Lambert explained that future payment systems will rely on multiple forms of digital money working together. He noted that fiat currencies, stablecoins and tokenized deposits must operate across connected financial networks. Moreover, he added that companies linking those networks efficiently will be best positioned as digital payments evolve.

BVNK’s Ripple ties strengthen Mastercard’s blockchain network

BVNK has maintained close business ties with Ripple since 2024, making the acquisition relevant to the XRP ecosystem. The platform officially supports XRP within its technical infrastructure, enabling businesses to process deposits and outgoing payments through its multichain payment network.

During Ripple’s preparation for the launch of its enterprise stablecoin RLUSD, Standard Custody executives identified BVNK as an important infrastructure partner serving business-to-business and business-to-consumer payment flows. Additionally, the partnership supported Ripple’s efforts to extend institutional liquidity beyond financial institutions and into commercial payment channels.

Although Ripple and BVNK do not have an exclusive agreement, both companies serve the institutional payments market and pursue several strategic initiatives together. Furthermore, they participate in Mastercard’s Crypto Partner Program, where blockchain firms collaborate on developing enterprise payment solutions.

Their cooperation also extends to Mastercard’s Multi-Token Network, which focuses on connecting tokenized assets with existing financial infrastructure. Besides that, Ripple remains a participant in Mastercard’s CBDC Partner Program, further linking both companies within Mastercard’s digital asset ecosystem.

Conclusion

Mastercard’s acquisition of BVNK reflects its strategy of expanding blockchain payment infrastructure instead of issuing digital currencies. Meanwhile, BVNK’s established relationship with Ripple and native XRP support strengthen Mastercard’s position in the growing institutional stablecoin market.
