St. Paul, Minnesota, October 22 /PRNewswire/ — Marketplace, owned by American Public Media, has received a grant from the Nasdaq Foundation’s Economic Opportunity Initiative to expand its financial literacy content. Marketplace is the most widely listened to and watched business and economic news program in the United States across radio, television, and public broadcasting.
This grant will support Marketplace’s financial literacy initiative, helping it advance its mission to improve economic understanding. The economic opportunity funding will be used to bundle some of Marketplace’s strongest reporting and learning content into an easily accessible digital hub. The project will expand classroom-ready resources through educational partners and engage audiences in communities and online—particularly on social media—to lower barriers to accessing financial literacy tools.
This program centers on four established financial literacy podcasts from Marketplace: Million Bazillion, Financially Inclined, This Is Uncomfortable, and Must Be the Money. Together, these shows help listeners at every stage of life understand how finance, business, and the economy work—knowledge that stays with them for life.
Neal Scarbrough, Vice President and General Manager of Marketplace, said: “Financial literacy is at the core of our mission to elevate economic awareness across the nation. With support from the Nasdaq Foundation, Marketplace can accelerate its efforts to expand the depth, discoverability, and reach of these resources, equipping Americans with tools to build a more secure financial future at every stage of life.”
Jailan Griffiths, Chair of the Nasdaq Foundation and Head of Nasdaq’s Purpose Initiatives, said: “Financial literacy is the foundation of economic opportunity. Through our Economic Opportunity grant program, the Nasdaq Foundation is committed to expanding financial knowledge and equipping underserved communities with the tools to share in the wealth created by markets. Marketplace’s mission to elevate economic awareness across the nation aligns closely with this goal, and we are proud to support their efforts to make trustworthy, accessible financial education available to more Americans.”
