Maple reported about 225 million XRP, worth roughly $280 million, backing loans financed through Ethereum pools. Three disclosed XRP-backed positions have approximately $151.8 million in principal, assuming USDC and USDT each equal one dollar. The positions mature in December and January. Borrowing stablecoins against XRP allows holders to obtain liquidity without giving up exposure to XRP.
Maple's syrupUSDC disclosure recorded 142,766,086.05 XRP with a value of $177.7 million. Maple's syrupUSDT disclosure recorded 82,314,668.8 XRP with a value of $102.5 million. The disclosed collateral values add up to $280.2 million. The syrupUSDC total already incorporates the collateral values of the two disclosed USDC loans.
The three positions do not necessarily represent three separate beneficial borrowers. Maple's Borrower Hub allows an organization to operate through several legal entities, so the position count cannot establish how broadly the exposure is spread. Public disclosures do not establish the precise approvals or timing required to release collateral from these positions.
DefiLlama placed Maple's allocation to XRP Ledger at $281.1 million during the same retrieval window. DefiLlama put total XRP Ledger DeFi value at roughly $318 million. Maple's adapter attributes XRP collateral to XRP Ledger because the collateral remains in custody on XRP's native chain, although Ethereum pools fund the loans. That accounting applies specifically to positions backed by XRP.
The adapter disables historical backfilling because the collateral metadata reflects current balances. A query for an earlier block would therefore return present collateral holdings rather than holdings at that earlier time. Current balances cannot establish acquisition dates or the quantity of XRP added during a comparable earlier period.
The two USDC positions displayed collateral levels of 178.3% and 188.2%. The USDT position displayed a collateral level of 185.7%. Maple's currently hosted, undated default procedure states that each loan receives initial, margin-call and liquidation loan-to-value thresholds at origination. The procedure gives borrowers 12 to 24 hours after a margin call to add collateral or repay.
Additional XRP posted in response could come from existing holdings or separate purchases and would increase the quantity committed to the loan. Debt repayment provides another response without necessarily increasing XRP collateral. The procedure permits liquidation after an unresolved margin call, a breached liquidation threshold or a specified contractual default. The procedure applies collateral-sale proceeds to principal, interest and fees before impairing any remaining shortfall. Liquidation can therefore convert pledged XRP into market sales.
Renewals that still require XRP collateral, or replacement loans secured with XRP after repayment, would provide the strongest evidence of lasting credit use. An increase in pledged token quantities would demonstrate a larger collateral commitment. However, repayments followed by authorized releases would reduce the XRP supporting these loans. A decline in collateral's dollar value alone would not establish token withdrawals because XRP price changes can also lower that value.
The December and January maturities create specific opportunities to observe renewals, repayments and collateral changes. Maple's disclosures currently demonstrate that XRP serves a financing purpose. Demand beyond these loans depends on borrowers continuing to require XRP as collateral.
Maple Locks $280M in XRP Collateral, Maturity Dates in December and January Pose Liquidation Risks
CryptoSlateShare
Maple has locked $280 million in XRP collateral for loans via Ethereum pools, with $151.8 million in principal set to mature in December and January. Borrowers can access liquidity through stablecoins while maintaining XRP exposure. syrupUSDC and syrupUSDT disclosures show 142.8 million and 82.3 million XRP, valued at $177.7 million and $102.5 million. Collateral levels range from 178.3% to 188.2%. Borrowers have 12–24 hours to respond to margin calls before liquidation. The maturities may influence renewals, repayments, and adjustments. Value investing in crypto remains relevant as support and resistance levels in XRP could affect collateral stability.
